Jacksonville IT Council February meeting

JITC Meeting

Fruity pebbles. Chocolate custard. Bacon maple?

Just three examples of the delicious donuts on the JITC breakfast table, today, courtesy of our friends at The Donut Experiment of St. Augustine.

Beyond the donuts, the breakfast was sponsored by EdgePod / EdgePresence, with Alex Himmelburg sharing a little bit about the interesting niche they’ve carved out for themselves.

Edgepod provides a purpose built micro data center as a turn key solution for the future of edge computing

EdgePod builds mini data centers inside portable containers, and then installs them at the edge, specifically, at the base of cell towers. Alex pointed out their intention is not to replace the traditional data center, but simply to provide data center capabilities, closer to the customer.

Neat stuff.

Next up was Katie Bakewell, Lead Statistician at NLP Logix. NLP Logix is “an artificial intelligence company that delivers advanced analytics, predictive modeling, process automation, and machine learning solutions…”

And Katie knows what she’s talking about! The term AI is thrown around somewhat haphazardly, but she pointed it’s not “Arnold in the Terminator,” instead, it’s simply data, and what you do with it.

Some of the ways AI can help your business:

  • Providing customized recommendations
  • Answering yes or no questions
  • Automating repetitive tasks
  • Detecting anomalies

NLP Logix and Katie have a process for building AI systems for the clients they work with:

  • Data gathering
  • Feature engineering
  • Model building
  • Optimization
  • Implementation

Give them a call if you or your business are ready to overcome “Real Business Challenges with Artificially Intelligent Solutions.”

This is the kind of talk you can expect at every Jacksonville IT Council (JITC) meeting. We have great discussions with great speakers, attended by great people from Jacksonville companies.

We meet on the last Tuesday of the month, and if you haven’t been to a JITC meeting in a while (or ever), I hope you’ll join us next month. Please stop me and say hello!
